Metroid Producer Anticipated Poor Response, Also Lies

Or at least exaggerates the truth.

This year’s E3 was a pretty big disappointment for Nintendo fans: rather than hearing about the new Zelda Wii U title, or the NX, we got a puppet show and Metroid Prime: Federation Force, a handheld Metroid Prime title thus far proving to be very misrepresentative, as it lacks both Metroid’s (so far) and Samus Aran, the main character of the series and one of Nintendo’s few un-kidnappable females.

Well, they got a shitstorm, and every appropriate party apologized and asked gamers to have some faith, but apparently, those apologizes and promises weren’t improvised: Metroid Prime series producer Kensuke Tanabe had apparently anticipated the negative response long before the event and had been gearing up to endure the rage for just as long. According to an interview:

“First off, I had in mind and expected that people would sort of act in a negative way when they find out that Samus was not an actual player. What I see happening is that once the players can actually have hands-on experience with the actual game, they'll be able to understand and experience for themselves how the game actually feels and that the Metroid Prime universe atmosphere is there, and the music that is used in the game is also heavily related to the Prime series of course so while people would at first say, "oh this isn't what I expected," they'll definitely understand the different perspective that we're taking here and it'll certainly make a difference once you get some experience with the game."

He then liked Federation Force to “The Avengers” in how it makes established characters come together. Which, I’d like to say, is bull: these four random federation jerks are in no way ‘established’ characters. If anything, Subspace Embassy from Super Smash Brother’s Brawl is the closest Nintendo has to an Avengers-style story, so I’m calling you out on abuse of buzzwords, Mr. Tanabe.

…not a great way to end an article, I admit.
