As with E3 last year, Konami didn't have much of a presence at this year's gala of gaming glories. Which makes sense: ever since Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain was released, Konami has had little to no pretense in the gaming world, triple-A or otherwise, as they try to reorient their brand and release more Patchinko machines in Japanese arcades based off their beloved properties. The only arguably "exciting" game on the horizon is their universally detested Metal Gear Survive, which takes all the maps and gameplay you saw in The Phantom Pain, sticks some zombies in there, and gives you the ability to fight them off with up to three friends. Co-op Metal Gear sure sounds fun, don't get me wrong (think of all the ways you could troll each other), but beyond that the reaction to a bog-standard zombie survival game in what's otherwise such a vibrant franchise speaks poorly to how the IP will fare under Konami's solo care.
I kind of got distracted for a bit there. Sorry. So anyway, at this year's E3, Konami was largely AFK. But they did have one bit of info to share with us that might be of interest: the aforementioned Metal Gear Survive has been delayed. Now, the game won't arrive for the PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One until early 2018.
Not a lot of heartbreak there. But for a game that's just a mod for Metal Gear Solid 5, how could it take so long? Other than general incompetence? Or maybe it's just so much better than we expect, with so much new content and maps, that it's taking longer than they expect.
Pfft. That'll be the day.
