So Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain has been all the rage as of last week, and justifiably so. Brilliant cinematics, a deep story, and top-notch gameplay have certainly earned the game a nomination for Game of the Year, if not the award itself. However, in terms of console sales, the Kojima creation shines on the PlayStation 4. GfK Chart Track--a group that tracks sales in the UK and Ireland--has revealed that--since September 1--The Phantom Pain has sold over three times more PlayStation 4 copies than Xbox One copies.
During the first week, the PlayStation 4 captured 72% of all physical copies, whereas only 22% of copies sold belonged to Xbox One. PlayStation 3 owned 3% of copies, and Xbox 360 stood last at 2%.
Oddly enough, there is no mention of PC sales, but that's probably because the PC version is in its own league.
Additionally, The Phantom Pain has beaten the first week sales of Metal Gear Solid 2 by slightly under 37%, but in comparison to 2015 titles' first week sales, The Phantom Pain is behind Batman: Arkham Knight and Witcher III: Wild Hunt.
For some reason, why is this fact extremely surprising?
