Yep. It’s happening. They wasted absolutely no time.

KPE, the branch of Konami responsible for their popular Pachinko line, has recently filed a trademark on a “Big Boss” line of Pachinko machines. And while we don’t know for certain what it is, any fans of Metal Gear Solid--or anyone who has paid attention to the gaming subreddit in the past few months--will recognize it immediately. That’s the name of the ‘protagonist’ from Metal Gear Solid 5.

They’re making a Metal Gear Solid Pachinko machine.

Considering Hideo Kojima is overwhelmingly likely to leave Konami, and anyone with sense would know that any future Metal Gear games without his name attached to them is destined to do poorly, this is a logical next step for Konami, who has unofficially made it their business to remind everyone how crappy they are.

But, then, I’m getting ahead of myself. This isn’t like that horrible Silent Hill 2 Pachinko machine that couldn’t be more tone deaf if it were Beethoven, there’s nothing especially anti-Pachinko about the tone or themes of Metal Gear Solid. A Metal Gear Solid Pachinko machine won’t damage anyone--not the brand, not the IP, and not the fans, so… whatever. Do what you want, Konami, we’re ready for you.
