The studio that brought you Castlevania: Lords of Shadow is now bringing you a more multiplayer type of game! MercurySteam has been teasing a new games for a little while, and while people thought it would finally be another Contra title, it's actually something entirely different and fresh: Raiders of the Broken Planet.

In an official announcement on Gamasutra, MercurySteam announced not only the title, but the closed beta for the title, which will be coming quite soon. To pique interests, Raiders of the Broken Planet is a Multiplayer Online Asymmetric Adventure, where players either fight raiders or fight alongside the raiders. The genres are a little mixed as well: there's a blend of shooting, brawling, and strategy in this title, coupled with a cinematic story stuffed with intense and explosive action.

This will also be self-published--meaning this is the first time that the studio goes indie. Apparently, since this is growing to be a trend, Raiders of the Broken Planet will be released in episodes at fairly low prices. According to a company spokesman:

"We saw an exciting opportunity with this title to take advantage of digital distribution and offer the game at a much lower entry point than would otherwise have been possible. This model also allows us to work closely with gamers to create something that they can help shape too."

The closed beta will be the first of multiple betas that will allow players to test and help out with the game's development. You can check out the new teaser site here to sign up for the PC closed beta.

Raiders of the Broken Planet will release in 2016 for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
