Megaman 1-6 Coming to your Phone

If you buy it, I mean.

Capcom’s been making an effort to move onto mobile phones as of late. It’s been increasingly popular for Japanese developers to port games, or bring familiar IPs, to the mobile sphere, perhaps due to a lack of faith in the 3DS, or maybe just because there’s no bigger audience out there than mobile phone users. Level 5 did it with Professor Layton, Nintendo is doing it with Mario, and even Capcom has managed to bring the Ace Attorney games over to your phone.

Well, Capcom isn’t done yet. With everyone’s favorite lawyer on mobile devices, they figure it’s time to bring everyone’s favorite machine-child into the mix. They’ve just announced that Megaman 1 through 6 will soon be playable on your phone, sometime in the future. What’s more, it seems like the whole collection is going to be pretty cheap, sitting at two bucks for the whole collection… a value that would give that Nintendo Classics Collection a run for its money.

"This is the first time all six of the original 8-bit Mega Man games have been made available on smart devices, 29 years since Mega Man first exploded onto the console scene. Each game has been optimized for the mobile devices with adjustments to game speed."

While there’s no specific date released for this collection, you can sign up for notifications that will allow you to be the first among your friends and family to grab this collection when it eventually launches. But, still, this is pretty good news. Not the best news, of course, that would be a new Megaman game or something like it, but it’s always good to see developers go out of their way to preserve the classics for future generations… and frustrate them with old-fashioned level design.

Like that gosh-darn yellow blob robot from the first game.

I hate it so much.
