There's a common trope of the elderly not understanding modern technology. I've had enough calls with my grandmother to attest this. However, one group of Swedish gamers are not only showing that eSports can be for anyone but that it's also healthy for them. Meet the Silver Snipers.
The Silver Snipers are a Counter-Strike team of over-the-hill gamers with aspirations of making it to DreamHack this year. BirDie, Knitting Knight, Windy, Teen-Slayer, and Berra-Bang joined together with retired eSports player Potti to coach them.
With ages ranging from 62 to 81, the silver foxes say that playing Counter-Strike helps build their confidence while working as a mental exercise. They want to make it to DreamHack to show everyone that you don't have to be young to be able to play video games.
With everyone on the team having fewer than 100 hours of playtime and an average kill to death ratio of 0.5, they will need to improve more still before they are ready to take on the competitive scene.
Either way, I love this age representation (and more gender diversity than most teams) in gaming. You can read and see more about them on their website. Fight on, Silver Snipers.
