Mass Effect Andromeda Team Merged with EA Motive Studios

It'll be a while before we hear from Mass Effect again.

Mass Effect Andromeda wasn't great, I think we can all agree on that, but we also need to take a step back and agree it wasn't horrible, either. Yeah, the story wasn't great, the animation could be distracting, but the gameplay itself was fine! And there were still good characters and some cool moments! It's not like it's "The Room" of video games or whatever, there's no reason to be humiliated by it, and yet, EA has treated Mass Effect Andromeda like the world's biggest failure. They've 'canceled' all the game's DLC, and now they've taken things further by downright destroying the team responsible for the game and sending them to work on Star Wars Battlefront: putting the final nail in the "Mass Effect is dead for now" coffin.

Going into details makes it sound less menacing, and in a way, it's not that menacing to begin with. They're really just merging their old Bioware Montreal team with EA Motive Studios, the folks who are working on the latest Star Wars game's single-player mode, as well as another Star Wars based IP that has yet to be announced.

"The teams in EA Worldwide Studios are packed with talent, and more than ever, we're driving collaboration between studios on key projects. With multiple major projects in development in Montreal, we are merging BioWare Montreal with Motive Studios. This is an ongoing process, but there are many exciting roles and opportunities for everyone on the team."

So they're still working on space stuff, but under a new team and with new management. A merger is way better than a simple firing, that's no lie, but still, it's bad news for people who were hoping for a new Mass Effect anytime soon.

...But then, maybe you're just happy they're going to leave the beloved trilogy alone. For now.
