Disney's official statement is as follows:
We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.
Marvel Heroes was initially released in 2013 under the guidance of David Brevik, an ex-Blizzard North president. He would leave Gazillion Entertainment in 2016. The game underwent a series of name changes as it would update and is currently known as Marvel Heroes Omega. The Omega version came to console earlier this year when it was added to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
The Marvel Heroes social media outlets have been quiet since October not long after implementing Loki to the game. This led to fans being concerned about how well things are going internally. Nothing has been made clear until now.
A date has not been given for when the game will formally be closed down, this has understandably caused the player count to drop significantly.
