I give Nintendo a lot of well-deserved crap for the way they treat their customers, but let it never be said they don't give their games the utmost respect. They don't seem interested in doing what EA or Ubisoft would do when they make re-releases, and just upgrade the graphics and slap a full price tag on the game: they always go above and beyond to make sure it's different enough to be worth your time. If that means re-mapping the entire game and making it crap as they did with Star Fox Zero, that's what they'll do. For Super Mario 64 they gave it more levels and a multiplayer option. Legend of Zelda gets improved maps, 3D, and of course, a selfie mode. And now that they're talking about re-releasing Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, a classic Game Boy Advanced game for the 3DS, you might wonder what their plan is for making that a worthwhile purchase.
The upgraded sprites look cool. The game was always very good and revisiting it after 14 years (?!) is certainly destined to be a treat. But the mode they added on? A fully-fledged RTS starring the Mushroom Kingdom's mos famous antagonists? My only question is why NIntendo didn't think to do that sooner!
And, of course, along with the game, two new Amiibo's were announced as well, a Goomba and a Koopa Troopa, which will no doubt be used in the aforementioned Bowser's Minions mode.
I didn't think this would be one of the most exciting reveals for the Nintendo show for me, and yet, here we are!
