The new virtual reality Mario Kart game, Mario Kart Arcade GP VR, has now gotten a trailer to go along with it. This is a game that I'm pretty skeptical about, honestly. While I've played Mario Kart since I was a kid, I just don't have very high hopes for this new version. Racing games have already tried to do VR stuff, and it normally just makes the drivers feel sick to their stomachs. I don't think it's going to be a very different outcome here either.
In Mario Kart, you have so much to look at when you're driving. Whether it's avoiding a Chain Chomp or worrying about a pesky green shell, there's a lot going on around you. This will make people turn their heads even more, which might actually make the VR sickness much worse. Granted, this is only my personal opinion and you can check the trailer out for yourself down below.
The one thing I do want to mention is the fact that the trailer didn't show the player spin-out. When you get hit with something in the game, you car does the classic spin to slow you down and show proof of impact in some way. If the spin is in VR, it will absolutely make people sick. Plus you also have to reorient yourself after the spin, which will probably have players looking all around to try to get a grasp of their current surroundings. I'll give the game a chance for now, but my expectations are still remaining low at this point.
