Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Patch Removes Offensive Gesture

Keep it PG Nintendo.

Mario Kart is definitely a family friendly game, and as much as some of us might like our favorite Nintendo characters to flip our opponents the bird, it's not the greatest PR move. A recent patch in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe removes an offensive gesture from the Inkling Girl character, and while she obviously didn't give anyone the finger, it was deemed offensive enough.

While the arm-clench gesture done by her isn't offensive in the UK or Japan, it's considered offensive in countries like France, Spain, Italy, Portugal and many others. The meaning of the gesture varies from something equivalent to giving the finger and also an insult involving somebody's mother. Talk about a lack of research on Nintendo's behalf.

They changed the gesture to a classic victory arm pump. Mario Kart is now friendly for all ages and nationalities again. But seriously, am I the only one that would love to see a rated R version of Mario Kart? Maybe so.
