With Mario Kart 8 Deluxe being one of the hottest games out on the Switch right now, there have been a lot of really amazing things to say about it. However, since Nintendo is trying to get more into the online multiplayer scene, people are inevitably talking about that as well. The biggest issue with the new Mario Kart game is by far its online play.

Although Nintendo is fairly new to the online aspect of gaming, there are many problems that need to be corrected. One of which is connectivity. Players have been reporting random disconnects that send them to the main menu and error messages saying that they had lost connection to another user's Switch. Not exactly sure what that means, but alright. Not to mention the fact that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has no lobby system. If you want to play with a friend, you have to pray that somebody in your game will randomly disconnect and open a spot up for your buddy.

The last major complaint about the game's multiplayer is the ranking system. Basically, it is as bare-bones as a ranking system could possibly be. You start up the game and you have 1,000 points. If you do well, you gain points and if you do poorly, you lose points. Very, very simple. However, there is no incentive to do better or improve your game. I mean, you'll get the chance to play against harder opponents if you place well consistently, but there are no rewards or incentives in place to motivate you to improve your game.

All-in-all, this is a baby step for Nintendo, but they need to do much better. This type of online play will never compete with other major home consoles and it can be a huge crippling factor for the successful company.
