Man stabbed in neck during quarrel over video game

OCALA – A disagreement between two men playing video games together ended in a stabbing and an arrest early Saturday afternoon.

Roy Harris, 21, is in police custody, accused of stabbed Daniel Riveria, 28, in the throat, according to Ocala police. Riveria was airlifted to Shands at the University of Florida in Gainesville, where he remained in serious condition later Saturday.

Riveria, told Ocala police officers that the deep cut to his neck came when Harris attacked him after the two men had a disagreement while playing video games. Riveria was able to break away from the scuffle, and Harris fled the scene.

When officers arrived at 1648 S.W. Fifth Street, where the stabbing occurred, there was a trail of blood, but no people, according to police. Then they received a call from emergency medical technicians who were parked in the nearby parking lot of a local manufactured home dealer, Skyline, at 1230 S.W. 10th St.

A person driving Riveria to get medical attention saw the ambulance and approached it for help. The EMT's called to have Riveria, who suffered from a deep cut to his throat, airlifted to Shands.

Harris was found fleeing from the back yard of a residence several blocks away from the scene but surrendered peacefully after being caught. He was charged with attempted murder.
