I don't typically report on fan work on Gamerz Unite, unless Nintendo is shutting it down, but with 2016 being the terrible, crapsack year that it is, I was in desperate need of something, anything, to be thankful for this Thanksgiving season. And while I'd be hard pressed to be thrilled about some recent developments in our world, there's at least one thing I can be grateful for--fans being awesome. In this case, we're talking about the release of two amazing Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask--a breathtaking album, and a stunning trailer exploring the backstory of the Skull Kid who would eventually don the titular mask.
First, let's look at the trailer.
That is astonishingly cool, and extremely well done. The art style matches perfectly, it has touches and references from the game itself, and it's even fairly creepy. Nintendo has been thinking about making movies and TV shows out of its properties again, and if we saw a Legend of Zelda show with this much polish, you'd better believe it'd be a damn popular series.
But the trailer, while cool on its own, was in fact designed to celebrate the release of a new album full of Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask remixes by Theophany. And trust me when I say that the music is the real treat here.
And that ain't somethin' I say lightly.
Called Time's End ll: Majora's Mask Remixed, you can find it here and also download it for free, to enjoy anytime, all the time, much in the way I'm doing now. It's stunning, and every track on the album is a masterpiece, and I love it.
Now, Nintendo has historically been rather stringent when it comes to fan work, but typically that's only been with fan games: things like shows and music have been allowed. Hopefully, this follows precedent, but the quality is just so damn good Nintendo might go after it out of fear people would confuse it for an actual trailer from Nintendo itself. Or out of spite. One of the two.
Regardless, now I have something to occupy myself while everyone at my table debates politics for the hundredth time. Thank goodness for that.
