Mafia: The Heist Trailer Revealed

Looks like things go south in more ways than one.

Mafia 3 is coming out soon. Now, the Mafia series has been accused of being serious-minded, melodramatic clones of GTA, but from my experience they have a bit more in common with the Yakuza series, at least when the Yakuza series isn't being over-the-top goofy. In that the "open world" elements tend to be downplayed for open world side-questing as the main story progresses on a very linear path: exploring the world beyond those confines can offer some rewards, but only in so far that it will help you satisfy the main quest objectives later on.

Regardless, the third game is coming out, and so far it promises to be quite the adventure (if you want to call it that), that will take a sober, unflinching look at issues like crime, race, and discrimination in the years after the Vietnam war.

And in a Gamescom trailer, we get a two-minute look at the heist that will kick off the events of the game and change the life of protagonist Lincoln Clay forever.

Looks neat. Also a little spoil-heavy, but for a game series like Mafia, it's probably barely even the tip of the iceberg. Mafia 3 will be out for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 come October 7th.
