Hugh Hancock has passed away on Monday reportedly due to a heart attack. Hancock is considered by many as the father of machinimas, having popularized it with the founding of his site, Machinima.com.
Hancock founded Strange Company, a machinima creators group, in 1997. They would go on to become one of the longest living machinima groups today. Thier popularity led to the creation of Machinima.com in 2000.
Since then, the term "machinima" has become commonplace, and the animation style has grown to massive popularity. Strange Company would go on to create professional animations for big-name clients like EA.
Hancock was also the developer of Left-Hand Path, a fantasy horror RPG for virtual reality.
It is with great sadness to hear this, and our condolences go out to his friends, his family, and to Machinima.com themselves.
