The launch of Civilization 6’s spring update is looking to be quite the affair: while we’ve already discussed how the launch will bring mods and better multiplayer, it’s also going to release some new, premium, DLC civilizations that players can control in their bid to win human history. We have Australia, the other day we saw Persia, and now the third DLC civilization has been revealed… and it’s another that’s keen on conquest and bloodshed. Watch out, “science”, because Macedon enters the fray!

Lead by Alexander the Great, one of the most successful conquerors in human history, you’re going to have a heck of a time with these armies at your door.

"Alexander the Great, born in 356 BC, was a king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon and one of the greatest conquerors the world has ever known. Alexander's military campaign stretched from Greece on through Asia and northeast Africa, subsequently overthrowing Persian king Darius III and dispatching the Persian Empire in its entirety - all before his 30th birthday."

Macedon bucks convention by having not one, but two unique military units: the Hypaspist, ancient era soldiers with spears, swords, and shields, and the Hetairoi, a fast Heavy Cavalry unit widely considered the greatest cavalry of the ancient world, which replaces the common horseman unit.

To help stock your armies, we have the Basilikoi Paides, which gives you extra science whenever you train a non-citizen unit, and gives bonuses to military units.

So yeah, if you have Macedon, I wouldn’t recommend shooting for a cultural victory.

This being the third DLC civ we’ve learned about, you’d think that we’d have an idea of a release date or a price by now, but nope, we’re still blind on that front. Still, for true Civilization 6 fans, it’s looking like the premium update is a must-buy.
