Low-Down of QuakeCon's Fallout 4 Presentation

Unfortunately, no footage for us :(

Though the Fallout 4 demo took place today at QuakeCon, those on the outside couldn't view the stream, not even on Twitch.

This is including myself. So instead, I will highlight the important notes and/or fun facts from Fallout 4's presentation, courtesy of IGN's live feed:

Todd Howard's first game at Bethesda was actually Terminator: Future Shock, created 20 years ago. Unfortunately, that game in particular was not memorable because it just so happened that the title released right before DOOM.

Funny enough, there were more attendees in that very presentation room than at the Dolby theater at their first ever E3 presentation.

To begin the presentation, Bethesda showed off the concept art of the main character's "starter home" in Fallout 4, titled, "The House of Tomorrow." What is next shown is the concept art of Mr. Handy pouring a cup of coffee. Apparently, if Mr. Handy is blown apart, you can see all the parts.

As featured in the incredibly brief in-game demo, Mr. Handy will also say aloud the name of your character, which can be anything. Even "Mr. F***face."

River, who's Fallout 4's lead level designer's dog, is the model for Dogmeat. This seems to be behind the scenes footage, as it is shown that River is running around a grassy field during live capture for animation.

A character is introduced: Preston Garvey, who is the leader of the Commonwealth Minutemen. From the concept art, he wears brown robes and wields a laser rifle. His in-game model is then revealed, wearing a bent Sheriff's hat and asking the main character for help because his men's numbers have dwindled to 5. He can actually become a companion.

Piper is another possible companion, of which the main character meets at Diamond City, an area built in the ruins of Fenway Park. She is a woman donning a red leather coat and a old-fashion newsboy cap. Within Fallout 4, she helps the player access the destroyed park, but her boss, Mayor McDonough, is not too keen on the act.

Apparently, there are a total of 12 companions, with only four shown, "Dogmeat, Mr. Handy, Piper, and Preston."

Now, some important news: Fallout Shelter IS coming to Android August 13. It's about time, isn't it? They're adding more features to Shelter, including new kinds of attacks, more enemies, and Deathclaws! Mr. Handy is also being added to Fallout Shelter as a reward. He'll be able to pick up all resources for you, especially when you're feeling too lazy to click on these resources yourself. The update is expected to arrive for the iOS the same day as the Android release.

Back to Fallout 4, where PipBoy is viewed inside the game. There's an "older" video displayed for S(PECIAL), which stands for Strength. "We at Vault-Tec have prepared these educational materials for you to better understand the seven attributes that make you special. Today we focus on strength." Vault Boy finds nukes, gas masks, books, and med packs, and the stronger you are, the more you can carry. However, if you load up on too much, you'll end up slowing down. As proof, Vault Boy loads up on too many items and has to slowly walk away, but is suddenly squashed by a giant Raider. That's just one attribute video for the series. They're releasing these videos for all attributes between now until the release of the game. There will also be a bunch of perks, including Bloody Mess, that are tied to your SPECIAL stats. So everytime you level you get to pick one. So, bye-bye skills.

The in-game footage has officially begun, and the viewers are shown the town of Lexington, infested with Ghouls, but a group is residing there. The main character steps in with Dogmeat at his side, and in view are a broken diner and a chemical plant. Ghouls then appear, hungry for Dogmeat and the main character. VATS, however, is shown off to destroy the ghouls right where it hurts: in the torso. After successfully winning the battle, the main character comes across Super Duper Mart and tells Dogmeat to find anything worthwhile. Dogmeat scampers off the player hacks the computer and later finds a laser musket, a very powerful weapon that requires cranking. Another place--a power plant--is revealed, called Corvega. Raiders are overheard talking, but the main character steps in and blasts one of the guy's head off. Good news is, the sound is implemented very well--for instance, the weapons echo in the old, dank rooms. Players can also watch their enemies tear each other apart (i.e. Ghouls vs. Raiders). VATS appears to be used quite frequently in Fallout 4. Airships float about and drops off two heavily armed characters that are wearing the Fallout Brotherhood power armor. Apparently, these are your aids, as they help fight against the Raiders.

There's a "Behemoth" mutant that engages with the player. The Fat Man enters and destroys the creature with a large nuke. There's a cool mushroom cloud after-effect.

The demo ends. Boo. Hopefully we will eventually see this footage soon, but until then we will just have to wait and twiddle our thumbs.

Fallout 4 will come release November 10 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
