And to make sure it’s as good a first impression as it can be, they’ve decided to scrap everything that came before it: including the first Lords of the Fallen. According to general manager David Grijns, who was talking to Eurogamer, Lords of the Fallen is a “fresh start”.
"It's really a reset, it's a fresh start. It's a new engine - Unreal 4 - and a new team. A team which does not have a long and illustrious background in action RPG development, but we actually see it as a strength.”
And they’ll need that strength considering they still plan on aping the Souls-like RPG subgenre for this new title. Appropriately, they’re excited for that herculean effort.
“It’s an area of the games industry which is now considered untouchable in some degree, It's like, 'From Software rules the roost in this particular area of the badlands so abandon all hope ye who enter here.' And those are exactly the sorts of projects we love. We have a very senior team and what senior people want is to be challenged. The higher the challenge technically and creatively, the more interested we get.”
Now, if you were hoping for specifics about the game, the bad news is that there were none on offer. Apparently this game is earlier along in development than we first assumed. But still, it’s cool to see at least one developer so enthused. Hopefully the others share his attitude. Just might be enough to make a game worth playing.
