Lords of the Fallen 2 Being Co-Developed with Defiant Studios

Not that Defiant, a different one.

In the wake of Dark Soul’s enormous success, a number of games would go on to ape the formula, usually putting their own little twist or spin on it. One of the first games to try that was 2014’s Lords of the Fallen, which aped almost everything aspect of Dark Souls save two: you played a predetermined fellow who progressed through a narrative story told through ‘audio logs’, and the “bloodstain” you would leave behind after dying, which held all your accumulated experience, would slowly lose value the longer it went uncollected. BUT, that bloodstain could also heal you over time if you hung out over it, which I thought was a graceful way to give players an extra little edge when facing a foe that might be too tough for them.

Regardless, it didn’t win any awards but it got enough fans for the developer, CI Games, to try again with a sequel. Yet, instead of going at it by themselves, they’ve enlisted the help of a New York-based studio, Defiant Studios. No, not the Hand of Fate 2 guys. Different Defiant.

"We talked to a number of globally respected studios that had shown a strong interest in making the next LotF, and received several solid pitches. Finally decided to move forward with Defiant because we were impressed with their game concept, production expertise, and the pedigree of their developers."

This seems to be CI Game’s MO, as the first Lords of the Fallen was created with the help of Card13, who would go on to make another, more unique Souls-like in The Surge.

Other than that, there’s pretty much nothing we know about this upcoming project, outside it’s going to be released for consoles and PC alike. I might not say I have high hopes, but I’m interested to see how they spin it this time.
