Loot Crate Announces Monthly Indie Game Subscription: Loot Play

Like Humble Monthly, but without the charity.

It's easy to see what's trendy in the game industry. Once one person has success in an idea, everyone and their grandmother starts releasing their own variation of it. Some fair sized examples include open-world survival and battle royale. Now Loot Crate is getting in on their own bandwagon with an indie game subscription service.

The company best known for their once-a-month delivery of various gaming merchandise has announced Loot Play, a digital subscription service. For $10 a month, subscribers will gain access to a curation of various PC indie games.

Each "crate" will contain one high profile game, for which that month's promotions will be focused around. The crate will also contain four other games. Though to retain the Loot Box sense of mystery, these games will be a mystery until release. Loot Crate's Erik Reynolds spoke about the service.

"We want to solve two problems with Loot Play. We want to help subscribers find new games that are curated with a focus on creative new voices, and we want to help these independent studios reach new audiences through our large network of Looters.
. . .
Loot Play will be Loot Crate's first digital subscription product and will open the door for the company to continue its growth through digital offerings, redefine collecting and explore the relationship fans have with content."

The first month will feature Crossing Souls, developed by Fourattic and published by Devolver Digital.

Loot Play is the latest in video game subscriptions. Humble Monthly and Twitch Prime offer more or less the same idea, while Xbox and PlayStation have a Netflix-like service, offering a library of games for a monthly fee.
