Mimic Arena has been known for a little bit of time--since August 11 2015, in fact--but its release is now imminent. Indie developer Tiny Horse Games has announced the release date for the local-multiplayer: May 18, 2016 for Steam (PC and Mac), Razer Forge TV, NVIDIA Shield, Amazon Fire TV, and Android TV thanks to OUYA Publishing.

So what's Mimic Arena all about, anyway? Well, the title is a local-multiplayer platform shooter but with a twist. With up to four players facing off in battle, in a setting tests the skills of even the most seasoned of veterans. And now, here comes the twist: you'll have the aid of your past self, a mimic if you will. So basically what you have done in the past will reflect in your mimic, which surfaces automatically whenever your character is wiped out. They will serve as great shields and distractions, encouraging highly-strategic gameplay and coordination with... yourself!

Not only will you have mimics at your disposal, but also weapons such as Reflective Disks that will be able to deflect projectiles or the Phase Beam which ignores the environment around you. And yes, your mimic will be able to equip these weapons as well.

The game, inspired by Unreal Tournament, has come a long way since it's debut as a Global Game Jam project in 2013. Tyler Edwards birthed the project by building a prototype around cloning mechanics, then later acquired artist Hagen Deloss and composer Megan McDuffee to help flesh out this project into a beautiful product gamers will enjoy.

Here are the Key Highlights
  • 2-4 person local multiplayer
  • When your character is destroyed, a clone spawns to relive your previous actions
  • Use your past life, or Mimic, to create a team from your past actions
  • Grab powerups to equip yourself with a diverse arsenal
  • Three unique game modes - Infiltration, Death Match, and Survival
  • Initial prototype created at Global Game Jam 2013
  • Showcased at PAX, GDC, Twitch Mainstage, Power of Play, Rose City Comic Con, Portland Retro Gaming Expo, and more
Look forward to our preview in the upcoming days!
