According to a recent post on the Mojang Blog, the Minecraft movie will have its first screening on March 2, 2022. Along with the date, they also announced that Peter Sollett will take over as director, best known for his work on 2008's Nick and Nora's Infinite Playlist.
In the same post, they give us an idea of what the movie would be about.
"We'll tell you the story of a teenage girl and her unlikely group of adventurers. After the malevolent Ender Dragon sets out on a path of destruction, they must save their beautiful, blocky Overworld."
But that's not the quote that has my interest. I'm more fascinated by a joke they made about the lengthy film production process. They remarked that "making a live-action, full-length feature film is really complicated!"
Maybe back when the announced their partnership with Warner Bros to make a movie in 2014, the revealed that it was a live action film. But you know what, this is news to me. Terrifying news. One of the staple aspects of Minecraft is the blocky forms and pixel-y textures.
Now, I'm sure they mean it will feature realistic portrayals of mining, crafting, ender dragons, and creepers. But the only thing I can imagine is this:
