We wouldn't blame you for forgetting about the reports of a live-action Minecraft movie. But that might be for the better, considering the film has been delayed to an undisclosed date.

In a recent report by the Hollywood Reporter, film giant Warner Bros announces a number of movie date changes. The article highlights more major films, like Pattinson's The Batman and their other DC comic book properties. But in between it all, they also mention delaying the Minecraft movie beyond the previously stated release date of March 4, 2022. A new release date was not listed.

The Minecraft movie hasn't had the smoothest or most positive production, it seems. Originally revealed back in 2014, the film was in production with nearly no information about it. It was simply leaked by Minecraft founder Markus Persson on Twitter. Things remained quiet until 2018, when it was then reported that the director and co-writer Rob McElhenney had left the project. He would instead be replaced by Aaron and Adam Nee, who was tasked with writing a new story for the film.

The following year, the Minecraft blog released additional information, describing it as a live-action film with a female teenager protagonist having to band together with her friends to fight against the Ender Dragon.

We remain skeptical of the film. In the last few years, we saw the Detective Pikachu and the Sonic the Hedgehog films, two major motion pictures that combine live-action with video games. While we thoroughly enjoyed one, the other was mundane and underwhelming. The Minecraft movie has the potential to go either way. We only hope it'll be the former.
