Fornite: Battle Royale has established a history for themselves with dramatic in-game events with every new season. Last time, we saw actual interdimensional rifts and Durr Burger in the real world. Here is what's happening this time.

It began with lightning strikes. Players were noticing that lightning was coming down on the map at seemingly regular intervals. At first, they were spotting these strikes at 15-minute intervals. About three hours in, and the lightning struck a cactus, destroying it. After this happened, the frequency sped up to 7.5 minutes. After another three hours, another cactus was destroyed, and the strikes came faster.

Eventually, the lightning strikes down near square H9, but it didn't stop. A powerful bolt of energy continued to beam down from above until a large purple cube formed in the place of landing. The event was even witnessed at the time by professional Fortnite streamer Ninja during a Summer Skirmish competitive match.

Touching the cube will result in being pushed back and damaged. Attacking the cube will result in death, regardless of means. The kill ticker lists the player as having died by a changing text glitch.

Players have yet to discover anything new about this cube, why it's there, or what it will do. Only time will tell. With Fortnite Season 5 ending on September 25, 2018, we can presume the climax of this strange occurrence will occur around then.
