Nintendo has sold the Amiibo on two simple premises: they’re collectable, and having one will oftentimes result in unlocking unique content. Sometimes, that content is pretty minor--for example, in the upcoming Star Fox Zero, a fox or falco amiibo will only unlock some cosmetics for your vehicles. But for other games, it can be pretty significant--in Splatoon, for example, Amiibo’s unlock special trial runs, and there’s a whole section of Super Smash Brothers that’s locked behind having an amiibo to train.

I bring this up because it appears we have a new game joining the latter category, for better or for ill.

As you may well know, Nintendo is planning to release an HD remake of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for the Wii U in the upcoming months. To complement that release, Nintendo has also announced the release of a new Amiibo, of Wolf-Link being ridden by Midna. Sounds pretty cool, but up until this point, Nintendo had been rather hush-hush about what exactly this Amiibo will do for the game. But according to Amazon France (via Neogaf), which recently posted a list going through the features of the game, it could be the biggest bonus to date.

"Unlock bonuses with The Legend of Zelda amiibos: Tap all the amiibos for the Zelda series to unlock bonuses in the game, such as regenerating your life, or getting arrows for your bow. The new Wolf Link amiibo even allows you to get into a new dungeon: 'The Twilight Cave'. The data recorded on this amiibo can even be transferred to the next episode on Wii U,"

So, this doesn’t tell us much about this dungeon--such as its size, or the rewards it may hold for completing it, but it would still make the Wolf Link Amiibo one of the biggest rewards Nintendo has ever offered for ownership of one of their figurines. And considering how popular The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is, I suspect we’re going to have ourselves a shortage of Wolf Link amiibos soon after they’re made available.

The French Amazon page also revealed that The Twilight Princess will also ship with a “Hero Mode”, such as the kind that was included in Skyward Sword, and that it would be unlocked from the beginning. Oh, and surprise-surprise, the inventory will be visible from the gamepad.

Nintendo has yet to comment on this, and I’ll beek an eye peeled for in case they do. We still have till November to hear from them.
