Alright boys and girls, we have a big one for you today—who here is interested in learning the FULL ROSTER FOR SUPER SMASH BROTHERS?
Because if you want to keep it a surprise, I’d suggest ducking out now. Spoilers and speculation ahead!
Alright, so: for as long as we’ve known about the new Super Smash Brothers title, people have been wondering just what the full roster would be: sure, we knew about the characters Nintendo wanted to make public, like the Villager and several characters from the Fire Emblem roster, but what about that small handfuls of characters Nintendo lets people discover for themselves, after the game is released October 3rd? Could that be where the Ice Climbers or Falco are hiding?
The bad news is that if this leak is legit, the answer is no.
The good news, though, is that I this leak is legit, they have more interesting replacements.
Okay, some backstory. Last week, on the 19th, an anonymous 4-Chan user posted the below screenshots as “leaks” from the final version of the game, showing off Bowser Jr, the Dog from Duck Hunt of all things, and good ol’ Ness as secret fighters.
Problem with screenshots is that they’re easy to fake. Not so much with video, as several short clips showing Bowser Jr. and Shulk from Xenoblade in action, in what appears to be the 3DS version of the game. I posted these as soon as I could, but it’s not impossible Nintendo’s taken them down by now:
There are other videos in the series, but unfortunately this website only supports two in one article. Youtuber Izat True has all the videos available here.
Information in the video implies this is an ESRB copy of the game, but it’s more likely the leak came straight from a source inside Nintendo, as the ESRB doesn’t generally play the games they judge.
While this is the only “solid” information we have, it’s worth note that one 4chan user claims that Lucas, Choirs Men, Wolf, Ice Climbers and Snake will be released after the game is published as DLC. We have no evidence of this but it would make sense for Nintendo to do as much, now that they’ve embraced the practice of post-release content.
What do you guys think? If this is all true than it seems the latest Smash Brothers will have the biggest roster in a fighting game we’ve seen in a long time… but hey, at least Ness is there. That’s bound to make some people happy.
