Riot Games, the developer behind the famous MOBA, Diet DOTA 2 (otherwise known as League of Legends), is a strange entity in that while it is one of the biggest and wealthiest game studios and publishers in the world, it's only ever really made one game. Now, it will occasionally make periphery games around League of Legends, little flash mini-games that they use to promote the main game, but it's always come back around to League of Legends at the end of the day. And while today's news doesn't actually change that, it is certainly the most ambitious--and coolest--periphery game to ever come out of Riot Games.
Introducing: Mechs vs Minions!
A fully-fledged tabletop board game, Mechs vs Minions is a cooperative programmable story-driven game for 2 to 4 players where you control one of four mechs controlled by four of the League's most famous yordles (Ziggs, Heimerdinger, Tristana, and Corki), who are a race of furry midgets who make up the majority of League's Rule 34 content. Sitting at $75 bucks, the game comes with a board, ten story missions, 100+ cards, figurines, its own soundtrack, and more.
Again, this baby will set you back about $75 buckaroos, but looking at the quality of the board, that's actually not a terrible price for a board game.
Now, Riot Games obviously isn't a typical developer of board games, but apparently this game was started as a passion project three years ago by two developers working in secret and has since grown to a team of fifteen, as it is today. The game will go on sale come October 13th over at the Riot Store, so if you're a fan of League of Legends, Yordles, or just cooperative board games, then you might want to give this a gander.
But better buy it fast, if you're so inclined, as they're only shipping 30,000 units at launch.
