I will say the concept is unique.

Platformers are so common nowadays in the indie world that they can be considered the equivalent of cookies; so many brands, so many flavors, but only do the quality brands come out on top. The same can be said for indie platformers--so many out there, but many are bland and just do not taste impressive. However, there are still quite a few that are captivating and downright entertaining for hours.

Kwaan looks to be one such example, being one of the 36 games selected as finalists for the IndieCade awards. How? Well, it's actually quite unique, offering a cooperative poetic online experience.

IndieCade, which supports indie game development and organizes a series of international events that showcasing "the future of independent games," select nominees each year that would suit the titles of "best and most exciting indie games of the year."

And Kwaan is one of the lucky finalists, offering a sandbox exploration adventure. Kwaan is a game that blends point and click adventuring, side-scrolling platforming, role-playing elements, and a pixel art editor into a world where the player and their tribe attempt to please the sentient tree Kwaan in hopes to prevent the world from drowning in its tears.

Well, that's quite depressing, but what's brighter is that every action of the tribe will have an effect and help unveil a mythical story with loads of surprises.

Developed by industry veteran-filled Ankama Games, consisting of technical director Maxime Platady, creative director David Calvo, art director Gary Lucken, and music composer David Kanaga, Kwaan is available on Steam's Early Access program for $6.99.

The curtain will rise on the winners during IndieCade, running at Culver City, California between October 23 and 25, 2015.
