A Kotaku-related source, which was deemed reliable, was the first to inform the site. The second was from GameStop, as the company received marketing materials from No Man's Sky, but the release date was no longer correct. Instead, the company will be required to cover it up with a "Coming Soon" label:
"The Release Date for No Man's Sky has changed since the provided posters were printed. Please use a coming soon pop-on to cover up the date and communicate as needed to your guest about the change of release."
Neither Hello Games or Sony has followed up with Kotaku about the delay.
If this is true (and it's seeming to be very likely), is this for the best? Will the hype be for naught? Granted, it's an incredibly overhyped game, so you never know. However, it's important to know that a delayed game is better than a rushed game in terms of quality...
Unless you're Duke Nukem Forever. But we won't talk about that at all. Ever. Hopefully the game will deliver on the extensive hype.
