There's a large graveyard of forgotten game franchises. And to the disappointment of classic horror fans, Silent Hill seemed to be part of that collection. Or so it seemed. IP owner Konami recently filed a trademark application for the title in Canada.
First discovered by horror enthusiast site Bloody Disgusting, Konami has filed a trademark application with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office under the classification of "Video games; computer games."
Begin the speculation!
The Canadian trademark was set to expire in December. So as boring as it sounds, they're most likely just renewing it to retain ownership of the title.
It's been a long time since we saw anything Silent Hill related. Even then, the last example was PT, the first-person horror demo that was developed by acclaimed game director Hideo Kojima. But after Kojima's fallout with Komani and the publisher's extreme efforts to remove all traces of PT from the world, they certainly haven't painted themselves as interested in reviving the name. That's a shame really, we recently learned that manga artist Junji Ito was asked to make monsters for the game.
At best, this is a sign that they're going to bring Silent Hill back. At worst, this means the company will retain the trademark a little longer.
