I'm not saying nobody is excited for Metal Gear Survive, but I am saying that you could probably fit them all into a Clown Car really easily. Konami is learning firsthand that the biggest fans of Metal Gear Solid are Hideo Kojima fans first and foremost, and even though they still hold that very lucrative IP, no one is going to be racing to the stores to be the first to uncover the twisted narrative and exciting world of... Afghanistan, but with zombies.
It also doesn't help that the gaming trend this particular title was chasing, multiplayer survival, sort of passed already. Didn't you know, Konami? The big genre of 2017/18 is multiplayer battle royales. The ship you wanted has sailed.
Regardless, we're quickly approaching the February 20 console release date, so Konami decided to remind people this trainwreck is still happening by releasing another trailer - six minutes of action showing off the game's single-player mode. Prepare to be... underwhelmed.
I'll be honest, it looks... okay. The YouTube ratings wouldn't reflect it (2,000 likes, 6,000 dislikes at time of posting) but if you stripped away the "Metal Gear" aspect of it, it looks like an above-average zombie survival base-building game, something I'm actually kind of a sucker for. Not sure I'd ever get it myself, as there will probably be more microtransactions than you can shake a stick at (and think of the loot box possibilities!). However, there's going to be an open beta between January 18 and 21, and I might check it out.
That being said, it's been a while since Konami was the biggest bad in the industry. Maybe they've since reformed? Changed their ways? Learned from EA's mistakes?
...Ha, who am I kidding? This is Konami we're talking about.
