Konami Delists Itself from NYSE

Ominous Indeed...

The news about the Silent Hills game being officially canceled has been a depressing one, but it may be leading to a bigger shock than once imagined. Yesterday, not even a day after the announcement of the official cancellation of the hugely anticipated horror title, Konami issued a press release stating its voluntarily delisting from the New York Stock Exchange, effective April 24th, 2015.

If this doesn't spell ominous, I don't know what does.

You can refer to the press release here.

Though they have removed themselves from the New York Stock Exchange, the company still appears in the London Stock Exchange and the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

If the company delists itself from those two stock exchanges, then it may just be a sign that Konami's future will not be as bright as once expected.

According to Twinfinite, there are three possible reasons for this:
  • Konami is attempting to restructure itself that isn't focused as much on gaming.
  • Konami may just be interested in only trading shares within Japan, if the London Stock Exchange listing is removed.
  • Konami is protecting itself from being purchased or preparing to be purchased.
However, I believe there is an additional reason that would be a worst case scenario:

Konami goes completely bankrupt and becomes a distant memory in the video game industry.

That would be incredibly unfortunate, but these sudden, not-so-great announcements from Konami aren't exactly comforting.

What do you think is going on with Konami?
