Kojima is a revered game designer, and no one’s saying he doesn’t deserve that reverence: he’s designed some of the most intricate, beloved games in the world, and he’s got a larger-than-life persona that’s earned him fans and admirers all around the world. Still, his rockstar attitude does mean he occasionally does something so obnoxious that it’s hard to believe he keeps getting away with it. For example, if a normal developer had his name repeated hundreds of times in his games, at the start and end of every mission, most people might raise an eyebrow: but when Kojima does it, well, folks just laugh it off.
Likewise, when he starts selling $2000 dollar statues of the logo of his new company, which hasn’t even released a game yet (or even revealed gameplay), that’s the kind of thing that would get people up in arms. But, yet, when Kojima does it…
But yeah, that’s where we’re at. The statue itself, the work of Prime 1 Studio, is of Kojima Studio’s very own Ludens, who is wearing an "extra-vehicular activity (EVA) creative suit" and is carrying a flag with the Kojima Productions logo on it. Seems like a lot to ask for a statue, but it has a lunar-surface base and stands at over 5 feet tall, so there’s a lot to, er, ‘love’ here.
There will be a grand total of 150 made, which will be released in 2018, and each one will be signed by Kojima himself. If 2000 in a bulk sum is too much to spend, you can also agree to a payment plan of 225 dollars a month.
…Look, I’m not gonna lie, I think this is really, really gross. Even if it is Kojima, making 150 giant statues to celebrate his own studio? Before you even release your first game? It’s too soon after Mighty No. 9 for me to just blindly trust talent these days, Kojima, get your priorities straight.
But who am I kidding, Kojima’s fans are crazy, they’ll buy this crap in a heartbeat.
