Sure, we have seen many novels based on video games, but it is rather uncommon for vice versa to occur. Take for example The Witcher novels--the video games are based off the novels. So it's a little bit of a curiosity piquer to hear Koei Tecmo officially announce Arslan: The Warriors of Legend, which is based off The Heroic Legend of Arslan novellas.
A tactical action game boasting cel-shaded graphics and Dynasty Warriors-esque combat, Arslan is based off the Japanese fantasy series, authored by Yoshiki Tanaka. Since its publishing in 1986, Arsland has expanded into 14 novel series, anime adaptations, and manga.
As far as the plot goes, a young prince--Arslan--is exiled from his kingdom after the king faces major betrayal and loses the throne. Arslan thus must return and retake the throne to preserve peace over the kingdom once more. The story delves a bit farther than that, tackling very real and mature subjects like slavery and humanity.
...Is it just me, or does this series scream The Lion King?
Arslan: The Warriors of Legend will see Western shores sometime in early 2016 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PlayStation 3. However, the PlayStation 3 release will be limited to digital only.
