Kingdom Hearts, the iconic Disney-owned game franchise, is coming to PC for the first time ever. But before you break out your model keyblades, theres a catch: Itll be an Epic Games Store exclusive.

Epic Games has announced a new deal with Animation giant Disney and game developer/publisher Square Enix to bring four Kingdom Hearts games to their online game distribution platform. This will be the first time the series will be available on PC. The four games specifically are as follows:
  • KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX
  • KINGDOM HEARTS HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
  • KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind
  • KINGDOM HEARTS Melody of Memory
Usually, I like to give short summaries of games when I report on them, in case people arent familiar. But I dont think I can do that this time. The Kingdom Hearts games are notorious for having long, complicated, and often hard to understand plot lines. Just know that you normally play as someone named Sora, you often use a weapon called the Keyblade, and you travel between various Disney universes (Tarzan, Hercules, etc) to save people from an entity called Heartless.

All four titles will be available on March 30, 2021. The first game, KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5+2.5 ReMIX, will cost $49.99, with the other three priced at $59.99.

The reason I say that theres a catch is because of the controversial nature of the Epic Games Store. When the platform first launched in late 2018, it used aggressive market tactics to gain a following. This included offering developers better royalty rates, offering free games, and making numerous exclusivity deals on big and small titles alike. This had given the platform some controversy since many users were dissatisfied with the below average quality of the service (no review system, inefficient search system, etc). Many folks saw this as Epic throwing their money around to try and gain a player base. With another major franchise being revealed as an Epic exclusive, while many platform complaints remain unfixed, this move further reinforces this perspective.

The four Kingdom Hearts games will release on March 30, 2021. Otherwise, you can find these titles on various console platforms for the same (or sometimes a smaller) price.
