Financial reports are a fun way to find new information about upcoming games. We parsed some new information about Capcom this way recently, and now we've learned a few things about Square Enix's plans for this year.
There are two charts of interest from the company's most recent financial report, the first compares the companys net sales and operating income for the fiscal year ended March 2018 to the previous four years. Their net sales were lower, due to a lack of major titles, but digital sales remained strong enough to keep them above the operating line.
The second chart shows that because of the wonderful digital sales, the operating income margin has greatly improved from last year. It also shows some major titles for 2018 that they believe will drive sales the hardest. This consists of Octopath Traveler, set to release July 13, 2018, Shadow of the Tomb Raider on September 14, 2018, and the Kingdom Hearts III, which is still scheduled for a 2018 release.
With a long development time, and little else seen, it's easy to believe that Kingdom Hearts III would be pushed into the following year. But according to these charts, that won't be the case.
