Killer7, the 2005 action-adventure video game for the GameCube and PlayStation 2, is coming back to life. Publisher NIS America has announced a PC port of the game coming later this year.

Written and directed by SUDA51, of Lolipop Chainsaw and No More Heroes fame, Killer7 has grown into a cult classic adventure game by Grasshopper Manufacture Ltd.

Killer7 revolves around seven lethal assassins, each the split personality of a single man, Harman Smith. The player will overtake the deadly street on their mission to take down Kun Lan, the organizer of a squad of suicide bombers known as "Heaven Smile."

One observant fan noticed that in the announcement trailer (seen above), you can see an FPS counter in the upper left corner at the 53-second mark. They noted that the counter is the same as that of the Dolphin emulator. Dolphin is the most popular emulation software for GameCube and Wii games. This may indicate that the PC port is using this software to emulate the original game.

Dolphin is released under the GNU General Public License v2.0. While this means usage of Dolphin is allowed for commercial use, modification, and distribution, it only is allowed with the conditions that they keep the same license, and the source code is made publicly available upon distribution. If they are using Dolphin to emulate the game, they'll be required to also make the game open source, which is generally avoided for games released by large publishers.

Killer7 for PC will be available on Steam sometime in Fall 2018.
