Just Kidding, the Wii U is Canceled After All

Earlier, we reported - prematurely - that the Wii U would be ending production. Nintendo denied these claims as rumors, saying, "Even though the Nintendo Switch is slated to go on sale, [Wii U] production is scheduled to continue." And we assumed, reasonably, that would be the end of that kind of discussion for a good long time: after all, no reasonable company would deny a rumor as false and then, one week later, make a complete turnaround and say the rumors were true after all, right?

Well, if that is right, then I guess Nintendo isn't a reasonable company because guess what they just announced?

"We can confirm that as of today, all Wii U hardware that will be made available in the North American market for this fiscal year has already been shipped to our retail partners. We encourage anyone who wants Wii U to communicate with their preferred retail outlet to monitor availability,"

Wow, that did not last long, did it? So, the Wii U is over in North America, and it would be ending "soon" in Japan: Nintendo just did not want to waste another cent on their failed console, did they? But what I find most baffling is that they could have just ignored the rumors of the Wii U shutting down: instead, they actively said it was incorrect, then... this? It boggles the mind. A case of miscommunication? Spite? Who can say?

Regardless, this is where we're at right now. So. Grab your Wii U now, if you really want one...?
