Carpenter recently spoke in an interview with Consequence of Sound about his history scoring music for films, including his own line of Halloween movies. In the interview, he was asked whether or not video games had an influence on their use of guitar in the film score for his most recent score.
"[Laughs] I didn't think of that, but I think there's a part of me that's dying to do a game score, I'm just dying to do it, but I don't think anybody will hire me. No one thinks about me to do music for games, that'd be great!"
Carpenter had established himself in the early '80s with films like Halloween, The Fog, and Starman. Over time, he had become a major influence on the horror genre, developing titles like The Thing and Prince of Darkness. He semi-retired in the early 2000s, but returned in 2018 for the recent Halloween revitalization.
Filmmakers and other industry greats entering the world of game development isn't the newest concept. Another notable example is the upcoming Death Stranding, which features Guillermo Del Toro on the production team. He has no plans at the moment. But with any luck, we'll hear Carpenter in a game in the future.
