Industry legend John Carmack has filed a lawsuit against ZeniMax claiming that they owe him millions of dollars, specifically requesting $22.5 million. Carmack filed the lawsuit earlier this week, but ZeniMax is denying Carmack's allegations, claiming that they have "no merit". Carmack left id Software back in 2013 to join Oculus, and he's claiming that ZeniMax still owes him millions from the sale of id Software in 2009.

According to John Carmack, ZeniMax purchased id Software back in 2009 for $150 million. Dallas Morning News reported that Carmack is claiming ZeniMax has neglected to pay him his final installment of cash or even let him convert it into shares of stock. The lawsuit says that at the time of sale, Carmack was the majority shareholder of id Software and he received a convertible note valued at around $45.1 million. Carmack then decided to convert half of the $45 million into shares of ZeniMax stock, which he definitely received. It's the other half of his promised cash that he is claiming they neglected to pay him.

In a statement to the Dallas Morning News, a ZeniMax spokesperson went on the record claiming that John Carmack's accusations are "completely without merit". There is definitely some bad blood between ZeniMax and John Carmack and its bound to get very heated, very fast. There is most likely some built up anger going into this lawsuit based on a decision made back in February, awarding ZeniMax $500 million in a lawsuit against Oculus.
