Blizzard is kind of a big deal, which means everything they do is kind of a big deal, especially when they decide to release a new game. Blizzard has long subscribed to the “quality over quantity” model of game design, and while they don’t release new games often, the games they do release are pretty much guaranteed to both be very good and supported for a very long time.
Well, I’m not going to pretend to have some insider knowledge that suggests Blizzard has a new project in the works, but they have recently added a new job posting that has raised a few eyebrows around the net.
The job posting itself is fairly standard: a call for intern artists who, provided they already have some experience working with games, are invited to work for Blizzard for free for a time and get some of that sweet, sweet “exposure” artists are constantly struggling to get. But there are two specifics we’re really interested in here: one is that the job listing very clearly lists that you’ll be working on an unannounced project within the company. Which, by itself, is pretty exciting.
But here’s the real kicker: when the call was first posted, one of the recommended talents for applicants was a familiarity with the universe of Overwatch, which was the only game series specified by name by Blizzard. And even better, after a few hours of being up, the listing was changed and that requirement was removed.
Almost as if Blizzard is trying to hide something, hmm?
It wouldn’t be surprising if Blizzard wanted to expand upon the Overwatch universe. After all, it’s their most popular series right now, and while the world is full of lore, there aren’t that many avenues to explore that lore at the moment. A more story-focused game might just be the ticket.
Still, that’s all speculation. We’ll just have to keep our eyes peeled for news in the coming months and years. Just don’t get your hopes too high!
