Job Listing Implies that Halo: Infinite has RPG Elements

They're asking for someone with RPG skills, at least.

Halo: Infinite remains far on the horizon. But even now we can parse together information about the game. A recent job listing for their development team is pointing toward the game having more RPG elements than past titles.

First reported by Tyler Fischer, developers 343 Industries and Microsoft posted a job listing for a Senior Systems Designer. It makes no effort to hide "Halo Infinite", going so far as to directly saying that the job is for the next Halo campaign. All of its preferences and requirements remain expected, but what has people's attention is a request for RPG familiarity.

The positions requirements and "bonus" are listed as so:

Requirements:

  • 7+ years working in a senior or higher design capacity on AAA titles.
  • Familiarity with RPG and Shooter game mechanics.
  • Ability to learn proprietary toolsets and proven record of scripting/implementing within them.
  • A working knowledge of industry standard game engines, design toolsets, scripting languages and production pipelines.
  • Experienced manager and mentor.
Bonus:
  • A love for narrative based games and shooters in general
  • A passion for the Halo franchise and games

We went ahead and highlighted the part we're talking about. Why would a Halo game need RPG mechanics? Past titles have all been full-on shooters with little to no customization. RPGs on the other hand, have custom characters, leveling up, item management, and all that jazz. One could argue that this would apply to their multiplayer, but this job listing specifically says for a Halo campaign.

In terms of actual information, this doesn't tell us much. But it opens up the door to Halo: Infinite being different than past games. Now it's just a matter of how, exactly.
