Job Listing Hints at a New Diablo... Something.

We’re getting a new Diablo game! Yay!

...would be a preemptive, but not uncalled for, reaction to this bit of news. See, Blizzard, like most modern companies, still need to hire people to get jobs done--that is, until the robots get their act together. While these job openings are mostly useful for out-of-work game devs, they can also be useful for journalists who are looking for news like the desperate, hungry children we are. And Blizzard just dished out a hell of a meal.

See, they’re hiring for a new Art Director. Sounds like a pretty nice gig, except you need ten years’ experience as a game artist, five years as a leading game artist, and a healthy portfolio of shipped triple-A games to be considered, so I wouldn’t go submitting your college rendering portfolio there, Jimmy. But that’s not really what interests us: what excites us is that even though this job opening is for an “unannounced project”, it says the preferred candidate would have a deep understanding and passion for Diablo. Also, on the job listing site, the job is listed under Diablo.

Diablo 3 came out on May 15, 2012, and Reaper of Souls came out just last year… so one of two possibilities exist. Either this is an entirely new Diablo project (which would make sense, given how long it’ll likely take to develop) or they’re working on an expansion, which also wouldn’t be terribly unlikely, as Blizzard often likes to wrangle the most it can out of each game before it moves onto the next.

Of course, we’ll never know. It’ll take years before we hear anything official on this. So just… keep it in the back of your mind. A new Diablo SOMETHING is coming. Look forward to it!
