It's Confirmed: There Will Be No Story DLC for Mass Effect Andromeda

Bummer.

We reported back in June regarding a rumor circulating around Bioware, that the fourth addition in their critically acclaimed trilogy, Mass Effect Andromeda, had failed so spectacularly that EA, the publisher, had lost all interest in supporting it further. Which translated into a total lack of single-player DLC, which would make it the first Mass Effect game to do such a thing.

Well, it's been a while since we've heard from the Mass Effect team, but with the launch of version 1.10, Bioware has made it official: they are ending any and all support for the single-player campaign, which includes expansions and DLC for the single-player mode.

In a report sent out earlier, they had this to say:

“Our last update, 1.10, was the final update for Mass Effect: Andromeda. There are no planned future patches for single-player or in-game story content.”

Sums it up rather succulently, wouldn't you agree? But they elaborated:

“Early in development, we decided to focus Mass Effect: Andromeda’s story on the Pathfinder, the exploration of the Andromeda galaxy, and the conflict with the Archon. The game was designed to further expand on the Pathfinder’s journey through this new galaxy with story-based APEX multiplayer missions and we will continue to tell stories in the Andromeda Galaxy through our upcoming comics and novels, including the fate of the quarian ark.”

It's been five months or so since the game first launched, and many of the patches that followed focused exclusively on fixing the bugged animations (with a noteworthy exception being changing the dialogue tree of a transgender character) or expanding upon the largely unwanted multiplayer mode. This announcement by no means suggests they'll be done supporting that (they even plan on having a big event for N7 day) but it does mean that if you want to learn more about the Pathfinder's adventures, it seems you're out of luck.

This comes on the heels of EA scaling back the Bioware Montreal office to the point of nonexistence, leaving the fate of Bioware up in the air...

Seems like it's a bad time to be a fan.
