Itch.io Now Offers Patreon Integration

Itch.io might not be anyones first choice for online marketplace, but you cant argue that the indie digital storefront doesnt innovate. Earlier, it partnered up with Kickstarter in order to make it seamless for Kickstarted indie games to deliver their goods through the Itch.io platform, and now theyve done it again with Patreon: making it easier than ever before for game creators to beg people for money.

From a recent Itch.io blog post:

Starting now you can now offer access to your itch.io pages to your Patreon patrons. In order to get started you just need to connect your Patreon creator account to your itch.io account, select your campaign, then share the claim URL with your patrons. We use the Patreon API to verify your patrons to make sure the correct people get access. You can configure a minimum pledge level required to get access to your itch.io project page.

Pretty sweet. Its always nice when companies make it easier for developers, especially small ones, to connect with their audiences. And apparently this has been a feature thats been in-demand for a long time, so, good on them for hopping on it. Id like to see this kind of thing more often although, Steam being what it is, that might lead to some kind of abuse
