Reminiscing over good ol’ video games with a friend? Wanting to buy an arcade cabinet but lack the room to do so? Wanting to actually get your hands on some arcade games… for free? Worry not, for the group, dubbed Internet Archive, has recently launched a free platform chock-full of arcade games. A total of 900 games are featured on the site, all for the low, low price of free. As in, no attempts to shove coins into your computer, please. You can play directly from your browser by clicking onto a game of your choosing and just… play.

I have tried this game called Alpine Ski on the site, and though I have never really been exposed to the arcade (at least 80s arcade), I will admit it does emulate the arcade cupboard experience. Can’t skip the opening at all. Controls seem laggy. I have not one idea as to what I should have been doing. Some gamer I am.

Games included in this mammoth of a library are The Three Stooges, Alpha Mission, Alpine Ski, Bionic Commando, BurgerTime, Chinese Hero (Do I want to know?), Outrun (Oh, yes!), Street Fighter II, and more. Unfortunately, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles does not seem to appear on the list. Though most of the games play and work well, some games contain technical glitches and sometimes the controls in some games will not translate well onto keyboard or gamepad. Nevertheless, it is recommended to try all of them at least once, whether out of curiosity or for potential research in video gaming.
