Insomniac Games Adds the "Raimi suit" to Spider-Man After Fan Harassment

I need a hero to save me from this fanbase.

Marvel's Spider-Man, the hit PS4 title that released a few months back, is getting a new suit for the holidays. But it's not anything Santa-related - it's the suit from the 2002 Sam Raimi film, Spider-Man. Releasing today as a free update, Spider-Man can now equip the "Raimi Suit".

This special treat comes after an overwhelming amount of requests from the fanbase. Demand for the suit had grown so high that it had grown to the point of aggression and anger toward the developers. Fortunately, Insomniac has handled the criticism well, often responding to harassing tweets with calm and collected answers.

All the while, the tension was cultivating within the gaming community itself. While some users were angry about the lack of a Raimi suit, others were angry at the first bunch for their sense of entitlement. They believed asking for such a suit, which likely was limited by intellectual property rights, was unrealistic.

Hostility grew further when Insomniac revealed the final piece of their episodic DLC, Silver Lining. The DLC included new suits, including one from the recently released Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse. Fans took this to mean that there would not be any more suits, including their much wanted Raimi suit.

One tweet, found by Polygon, shows a Twitter user complaining about the situation.

I don't see your choices for suits. Don't you see you're disappointing many fans by trash suits?
I understand, that you have to save other good suits for your sequel, but it doesn't fair to give trash ones right now.

Insomniac responded accordingly.

We don't feel any of the suits we have released are trash or anything close to it. All of them were selected by our team for reasons and had a lot of love and effort put into them.

It's unfortunate to see the gaming community behave the way they have. While it was a vocal minority, it still breeds a toxic environment for developers. Despite all this, Insomniac made it happen as a free update for everyone. Good job, Insomniac. We don't deserve you.
