Infinity Ward Office Evacuated After Bomb Threat

Infinity Ward, the developer behind a number of Call of Duty games, was targeted by a bomb threat the other day. Apparently, police arrived in the morning to inform employees that someone had sent a threatening email demanding a bitcoin ransom of $20,000, otherwise the bomb would go off. Employees were able to evacuate the building without any issue, and when police scanned the building, they found no trace of any explosive device.

This is apparently just one of a wave of similar threats that have targeted dozens of institutions around Canada and the United States.

According to the NYPD News Twitter feed:

Please be advised - there is an email being circulated containing a bomb threat asking for bitcoin payment. While this email has been sent to numerous locations, searches have been conducted and NO DEVICES have been found.

At this time, it appears that these threats are meant to cause disruption and/or obtain money. We’ll respond to each call regarding these emails to conduct a search but we wanted to share this information so the credibility of these threats can be assessed as likely NOT CREDIBLE.

So it’s not a specific target against Infinity Ward to “protest” something, it’s just general shenanigans. Thankfully, nothing that’s hurt anyone, but I hope the jerk who’s spreading this around gets caught.
